hi...I'm afraid I've not much to say...wanted to let everyone know I'm home and had a wonderful time in Phoenix...but at the moment, I'm mute. It's so good to be home but I miss my friends! Will write more soon.
Goodmorning from one tired artist! I'm sitting in a little room at the Embassy Suites in Phoenix. When I left my room this morning Stacie was still snoozing..(she was on her back with the pillow on top of her face...how can people breath like that? My allergies have been so horrible here that I can hardly breath with nothing over my face!) and Norma was doing a happy dance because she'd just learned that she could tape her 4 shipped boxes together and just check them onto the plane for an extra $40...it had cost her $250 to ship them here from Florida.
We have had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, due to my half a brain, Stacie didn't arrive until 6pm on Friday, while Norma and I got here on Thursday at 6pm. This was my first time to see her face to face and I'm in love. She is this tiny red head (with blond "chunks of color") who is a total firecracker. I called her name (I looked like poop as I was ready for the shuttle that morning by the skin of my teeth, no time for makeup and having white trash fingernails (red chippy...well, not that bad but definately not good enough) so she was looking at me like...you're NOT tracy roos!! We just stood there hugging then staring at each other grinning like fools. We went to get our bags laughing and talking a mile a minute. While I waited for my bags, she went to get the rental car. I met her at the rental car desk and she was shmoozing her way into an SUV for the price of a much cheaper car...the guy at the desk, much younger and very cute was flirting away...I'm thinking, dang, here's a woman with confidence. :)
We spent the night getting settled into our rooms, showing each other all the fun stuff we'd brought...exchanging presents, etc. The next morning I said...hey, lets go eat breakfast before we shower and get ready for the day...we threw on our clothes, brushed ratty hair and set off...we ran into some of our favorite artists teaching or vending at the event on the way...Karen Michel, (sounds like Michelle, for those of you NOT in the know....which I found out last year after calling her Karen Michael and getting corrected) and Susan Lennard Kasmer? I know I spelled that wrong....we also ran into a living doll, Randi F. Watts?? sorry, as many of my know, my memory is poop)...who ate breakfast with us. We spent bucks before even leaving the hotel at the Ink It! table in the lobby!! We headed to Michaels first to look for the new issue of Somerset Studio magazine...no luck, but we did find some cool ribbon and I bought some fun yarn and a crochet scarf book. We met a funny lady named Elvira and of course had to pose for a picture with her. We then headed to Memory Makers...the home base of 7 Gypsies...yep, met the skinny, gorgous, Engish sister of the husband half of the husband/wife team that make up the wonderful company. I refuse tell how much money I spent there for fear my sweet, loving hubby will decide to read my journal for the first time!! I went NUTS! Of course, I bought out EVERY ISSUE of Somerset Studio....(My Artist Playing Card deck has a 6 page feature in this new issue!) This was my FIRST time to see the article and they've been sold out all over town. I bought one of the issues for ME and the other 6 to sell and display at my vendor's table. By the time we left, I was not only dehydrated...I was tired, hungry and needing to sit down. We must have spent 3 hours at that shop. If anyone goes to phoenix, you've GOT TO GO TO THAT STORE!! Next stop, INK It! More money spent. This is the most wonderful shop, the shop owners are adoreable.....another MUST DO! We were given directions to an antique mall that was enormous....so cheap....didn't even make it through it all. Time to get stacie at the airport.......HEY...just got a call from Norma...they're ready for me, so I'll finish this later!!
hi! I've been working all day and night getting art and stuff ready for ArtUnraveled in Phoenix. I'm exhausted and finally heading for bed. I thought I'd post a photo of some of the fun buttons I'll be selling at my vendor's booth, aren't they fun?? 5 of them are actually not for sale. I made two each for my girlfriends, Norma and Stacie and the one with my daughters faces will be what I wear on Vendor's day on Saturday. :) Please stop by and say hi if you attend the event!! oxox, tracy
*All knitters who have knitting blogs are skinny and adoreable....what's with this? I think there should be a chunky knitting blog circle.
I have two more days to complete projects and artwork before leaving for Phoenix. I'll have all day Friday with no commitments...would love to get some suggestions for things to see in that area, primarily dealing with antique shops and art supplies stores...if you know of some, please let me know!! :)
We have had the most blissful rain the past couple of days. It's been so nice having the windows open and actually feeling chilly instead of spending the day sweating like pigs!! I was very relieved with the downpour yesterday since it saved me from having to water my garden. :) Is anyone out there as addicted to the updates on the Scott Peterson trial like I am? I'm actually amazed by it. I'm glad I'm not a juror because it would be very hard NOT to be biased. I bought two new crochet books at Borders tonight while in search of the Somerset Studio magazine with the feature on my Artist Playing Cards. The girls and I did lots of crocheting..(well, I actually knit my first thing, a scarf that's shaped like a coke bottle. not supposed to be, but it just happened that way). The books are awesome and something I think the girls will be able to follow for their next projects. Oh well...not much more to say. oxox
EXCUSE.ME .....Umm...will someone please point the way to the EXIT door? I'm ready to exit this day...actually, I'll exit the past couple of months if you don't mind. Hey, I'll be giving up some pretty good things, a total sacrifice I'm ready to make....just get me out from under all this CRAZY MESS I've gotten myself into. I keep hearing Mike Meyer's voice from So I Married an Ax Murderer saying...."Jane, STOP THIS CRAZY THING.....called life!" or was it love? well, for me, it's LIFE. Do I even need to make a list of all the people I've amazingly had to apologize to in the last two weeks?? I would trade 95 percent of the CRAP and agree to sit in front of some over the top liberal crying over the injustice of John Kerry's Swift Boat Vetererans for Truth attack (and I've had enough of that to last me a lifetime!!) I'm leaving for Arizona on Thursday and sure enough, realize at 3am that I booked my flight for Friday night instead of Thursday....I have two friends flying there for a girlie weekend with me at the ArtUnraveled event...one coming on Thursday, the other on Friday...because of me...really! I changed my flight this morning to Thursday and now my friend who's getting there on friday will probably want to kick my BUTT for getting there a day before her...when no doubt, if I HADN'T changed my flight, the friend getting there on Thursday would want to kick my BUTT for saying thursday but not showing up until FRIDAY! UGGHH... I've had to get up and let my dog in and out of the back door at least 157,500 times in the past 4 hours...I just realized that I should have mailed my disk of artwork for my ART 4 A CURE deck, scheduled to be released in October, BEFORE I left for Colorado last week.....hmmm, very nice. Just spent 30 minutes on the phone listening to Kimber's rehearsed spiel (I don't know how the heck to spell this) on how she needs to earn $50 in the next three days so she can get ANOTHER 10gallon aquarium for her soon to be molting hermit crab to keep him safe from the other two....she's promised to do a $50 job cleaning my car...yeah, right. I just need to bitch and moan until the advil kicks in...Please, accept my apology now because I probably wont be answering the million emails waiting for me before I leave...In case you haven't noticed...I'm behind on everything in my life. Here's another blanket apology, I'm sure I owe another 50 or so.
Today is a quiet, peaceful but miserably sick and yucky day...well, I'm sick and yucky, the day's quite nice since I'm the only one home. I'm horribly behind on emails, my inbox reaching the 300 mark, each email needing a response from me (I quickly delete the ones that don't). I've been spending today getting ready for my trip to Arizona. I'm excited for a little time away from my loving family. :) Girl time, here I come!!! oxox
"No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow." - Alice Walker.
We bought the most wonderful old photos while in Colorado. This is one of them. We have photos of these two as they grow. :) I'm still busy and trying to work through things with the headcold. If you're waiting to hear from me, I'm sorry. oxox
It's my first morning home in over a week. We're back in the zoo with Muffin and Murphy thrilled to have people here again. We stopped over to get Larry last night since his people are gone on another vacation...Lily is probably happier than we are to be home. I have a horrible head/lung cold flu thingy...spent the entire 12 hour drive yesterday coughing and sounding like a scary monster. It was actually nice since all I had to do was sit and knit...much better than the usual taking care of everyone while being sick. :) Colorado was gorgeous, Utah, Wyoming and Idaho looked very much the same on I-84...there's so much empty space out there....just beautiful. Before heading back to Portland on Tuesday, my hubby surprised me and we took a detour to Estes Park...one of my most favorite citites. We ate lunch and hung out at the Stanley Hotel. It's an incredible hotel that was the inspiration of The Shining and was actually used in the filming of the mini series. I spent a week or so there on spring break when I was a student at Texas A&M. The city has changed quite a bit since 1985 but is still magical and gorgeous. This sweet little beeswax dress was made by Bev Perina during my 3-d beeswax class in Fort Collins. :) She used a 1930's dresden plate quilt piece for the skirt! oxox
