I went to an art sale/show Thursday night. I was actually going because two of the ladies in the Portland Art Collective group I'm in were IN the show! It's called Local 14. I walked around the event looking like a total hag. Earlier that day I'd had to take Kimber to her 8am Root Canal....after dropping her off securely with Kem...(they're getting along better, btw), I drove to the show, thinking it opened at 10am...nope. Drove from there to Barnes & Nobles to finally get my hands on the book I'm in...Altered Art and then to Krispy Kreme, per kimber's request. YES...I did have some...it's Krispy Kreme!! I picked up my rubber stamps, went to the post office...went home...out again, back to rubber stamp place, michaels, fabric store, and FINALLY made it to the Local 14 show just after 6pm. So, all that to explain why I looked like a hag..I'd been running nonstop since 7am. The show was incredible! My art group ladies had gorgeous work! *beautiful art, Melissa & Sandy!* There were three artists who's work sucked me right in. I went gaga over everything they had. The painting here was from my favorite. Her name is Amanda Blake There were so many of her pieces I wanted...my favorite costing almost $2000. I am thrilled with the little one I got *this one, shown here*...it's 4inches square..it's all I could afford, actually couldn't even afford it but rationalized buying it because of the $$ I'm making on the Cloth Paper Scissors magazine article. :) I am a huge, new fan of amanda's work. The second INCREDIBLE artist is Jill Mayberg The only way I was even able to choose between buying one of Jill's paintings or Amanda's was because Jill said she'd be having another show shortly from her studio....with even more work. I mentally took note that I needed to start creating my butt off to sell some of my work in order to buy a piece of hers! I'm a glutton for commitment punishment, I think. Okay, finally...the 3rd artist there (I loved most of the artwork at the show...but there were only these three that I struggled with deciding which to buy from) was a ceramics artist, jacquline hurlbert. I was able to meet all three of these ladies, jacquline was by her work and talking to people as they came by. She had several pieces I loved. Our personal styles are so different, just by the nature of ME...I knew I wouldn't want a face that looked like it had devil horns...(I'm sure they weren't devil horns at all, and this shows I'm a closed minded artist with no imagination!)...but there were others that had the same haunting feel...one in particular...it was similar to this one. It was wrapped in a pink robe and had a bird's nest and an egg or bird in the nest..I don't remember... on the back, she's carved the greatest thing...which of course, I don't remember either. :) It was gorgeous and something I'd love to own. So, there you go...an entire post about my new favorite artists...all of which have way too many things I want!!! It's Sat. night...Kem just walked in the door with Olive Garden...gonna go eat and watch Four Feathers with Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson. oxox
